Scheduled to begin in Abuja on December 5, 2024, the protest is spearheaded by the #ReformINEC and #SackYakubu Movement. The Council criticized the protest as an unwarranted and divisive action, arguing that it detracts from national progress and peace.
The Council described the protestors’ demands for electoral reform and Prof Yakubu’s resignation as insincere and baseless, asserting that these efforts are driven by personal and disruptive motives. It emphasized that Prof Yakubu’s leadership has brought significant advancements to Nigeria’s electoral process, enhancing its credibility and transparency.
In its statement, the Yoruba Youth Council highlighted its concerns that the protest is a deliberate attempt to destabilize the administration of President Nola Ahmed Tinubu.
